Day 86 – 7/17/13 – 30.7 mi (1520.8)
Another day with mostly the same as the last few, lots of long, hot, boring dirt road walking. We saw some posts marking the Oregon Trail today, so I was extra careful when filtering my water, not wanting to die of dysentery.
In the photo of the Oregon Trail marker, you’ll also notice a big pile of poop. This is from a wild horse. I learned from some bicyclists a few days ago that stallions return to the same place to poop to mark their territory. I learned from observation that stallions greatly prefer to poop directly on roads.
Towards the end of the day, some mountains, which I presume to be the Wind River Range, came into view. I think I speak for everyone when I say I can’t wait to get to them. They are supposed to be spectacular, and I am very ready to be done with the Great Divide Basin.
At the very end of the day, we finally reached a real creek, Sweetwater. Rockin and I went for a swim as best we could in the ankle deep water. It was heaven.
