Frog Detour

Day 28 – 5/25/11 – “23” miles (407)

So tired. This is our 7th day in a row hiking and everyone is starting to feel it. Miles 390-394 of the PCT are closed due to an endangered yellow legged frog. The official reroute replaces 8 miles of the PCT with 18 miles of alternate trail. We did not like the sound of this, so we walked a closed highway past the closed section. This actually cut our actual mileage by one or two miles, but who’s counting?
We are now in the newly reopened section of trail that was closed last year due to the big Station fire of 2009. Camping is restricted to certain areas so we had to stop at sulphur springs camping area today, and we will need to go at least 23 miles tomorrow to get to the next permitted camping area. As soon as this dice game is over it’s bedtime.
