Day 59 – 6/25/11 – 18 miles (838)

The day started out well, downhill at a good pace into a valley free of snow. We made good time and put in some miles on actual trail.

At lunch we discussed the plan for the day: get to mile 835 where the map shows ‘camping’. But mile 835 is at 10,500ft, so of course it was snow-covered and there was no camping to be had.

So we went on to Muir pass (11,955 ft). It seemed to go up forever, but well worth the effort. We are camping in Muir hut on top of the pass. It has walls and a roof and even a door!
