Day 60 – 6/26/11 – 20 miles (858)
We finally did things right today. The hut turned out to be a great shelter. For the first time this leg, my shoes weren’t frozen when I woke up. We got through all the snow fields in the morning while the snow was still hard, making grest time. And, we even camped in a warm valley.
The infamous and much hyped Evolution Creek wasn’t bad at all. We took the alternate meadow crossing, where the river is much wider, but much calmer. However, while sitting by the true PCT crossing of the river at lunch, we were showed up by a deer who ran down the trail, hopped into Evolution Creek and swam across without hesitation.
The trail was all downhill today and easy to follow. After 20 miles, we called it a day, though it was only 5pm. We found a nice campsite, built a fire ring and enjoyed a relaxing evening around the fire.
