Day 50 – 6/16/11 – 15 miles (756)
We got into the ‘real’ Sierra today. Lots of snow, lots of lost trail, and lots of amazing views. KBomb and I hiked together today, and I was very glad to not be hiking alone. The trail got lost under snow for miles at a time. There were footprints to follow, but that’s always a gamble; the person in front of you may not know where he’s going either. We made a few mistakes, but always were able to figure out where we were and get back on track by studying our maps.
We also passed the first natural lake of the PCT! It only took 750 miles. Chicken Spring lake was still frozen and a very picturesque spot for lunch. We camped at 11,000ft in a saddle without mosquitos, and I’m feeling much better with the altitude today. Oh, and I saw my first marmot!
