Day 42 – 6/8/11 – 20 miles (651)
Camping on the saddle was very windy, and I didn’t sleep very well as a result. But I still felt good once I got going in the morning and cranked out the miles pretty quickly. We heard rumors of trail magic coolers at Walker Pass, our day’s goal, from some other hikers at lunch. I tried to not get too excited, they very well might be empty by the time we got there. Coming down the switchbacks into campground at the pass, I saw several trucks and lots of lawn chairs and canopies set up. I still tried to not get my hopes up, they could just be weekend campers (I have no concept of days of the week anymore). But luck was on our side once more. It was a full on trail magic party provided by Yogi and Okie Girl. Cold sodas, beer, chili dinner and cake for dessert!
There was quite a congregation of hikers there, maybe 25? It was a nice evening of sharing stories and chatting.
…embarrassingly late, getting on board…
my pea-brain was finally triggered to remember, and I sucked it all up…am up to speed…and just talked with Mom.
No need to reply, just… am spellbound, enraptured, Understand, WAY Jealous and SO Happy for you 🙂
A dream come true.
I remember often thinking of how backpacking was such a wonderful expression of self-reliance…how it helped me learn so much about myself…how little one really needs…eliminating clutter…simplifying…getting in touch with the beauty of the earth, climate…and what’s really important, huh?
Again, no need to reply, just sharing with a kindred spirit…
Excited/happy for you.
Be safe.
Prayers said.
Peace.
Happy trails 🙂
