Buck’s Lake

Day 88 – 7/24/11 – 25 miles (1265)

No snow all day! We flew the first 11 miles downhill to the middle fork of Feather river. There was a vey nice bridge, but Roadrunner decided a swim was a in order anyway.

We stopped at a creek for lunch, where there were literally thousands or ladybugs covering every surface.

Then it was another 3000′ climb which we powered through quickly. We hoped to get to the road to Buck’s lake and take a detour to some stores or a restaurant. But then magic struck. Four miles from the road we came across a sign advertising trail angels offering food, showers, laundry, matresses!

Now that’s some motivation; we walked those last 4 miles in one hour.
The trail angels at Honker Pass are the best kept secret on the trail! Nancy and Terry are amazing hosts, feeding us enormous quantities of excellent food. Amazing.
