Half way!

Day 91 – 7/27/11 – 20 miles (1335)

Half way! We started walking a bit earlier than usual today, hoping to make it to Chester before the post office closed. But it just wouldn’t be a day on the PCT without hitting a patch of snow where, in accordance with Rule #4, the trail turned sharply and we ended up bushwhacking up over a ridge and down the other side.

Then we passed the half way monument! That’s right, we are officially half way to Canada. It’s almost depressing to think we’re only half way, knowing how long and hard some of the trail to this point has been. There’s also a feeling of pressure to push hard and do big mile days. We are now in a race to get to Canada before the snow flies, not that we have any way of knowing when that will be. We are aiming for an end of September finish, with a plan of minimizing zero days as much as possible.

We got a ride into Chester from a trail angel, gorged at the Pine Shack Frosty, resupplied at a real supermarket, and have a motel room with enough beds for us to each have our own!
