I’m now back home in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Ninja and Roadrunner are also in their respective hometowns. After Manning Park, we took the bus to Vancouver, where we did absolutely nothing in a hotel room for an entire day. As a post trail treat I’d been planning ever since somewhere in Southern California when I decided against shaving my head, I got my hair did at a dread salon. Vancouver is the only city I know of where such a place exists. Then it was another bus back to Seattle before a red eye flight home.
Someone commented that I didn’t say much in my last entry about finishing. I’d been so focused on reaching Monument 78 for so long, that it’s now quite strange to be over. The first few days just felt like another town stop. I went in a grocery store in Vancouver and headed straight to the energy bar section. Now that I’m actually home, and no longer with Ninja and Roadrunner, it’s starting to set in….and it’s sad! The hustle and bustle of this “real life” seems strange now. I went 5 months with a 900ml pot and a plastic spoon; I’ve been in my house for a day and I have a sink full of dishes. I have some readjusting to do.
This is about it for the blog. I will be uploading a bunch of photos to my gallery and add a link here. I will also post a followup on my gear list with some comments on changes I made and reviews of some items since I found this type of information very helpful in my own planning. A big thank you to everyone who has followed my hike. Knowing I had so many people supporting me helped keep me going.
I will be having one or more parties to celebrate my return home and share some photos and hiker food. Details to follow.
