Day 147 – 9/21/11 – 5 miles (2574)

If June 21 is hike naked day, then September 21 must be hike in ALL your clothes day. I attempted this challenge wearing everything: hiking shirt, long underwear shirt, down jacket, rain jacket, long underwear bottoms, hiking pants, rain pants, gloves, rain mitts, buff, fleece hat. I lasted about 1 mile before I gave up and delayered into my usual hiking outfit.

We caught the first shuttle into Stehekin, an isolated community that can only be reached by hiking, ferry, or float plane. We hear about some places well before we get there, like the hundred or so miles before Drakesbad. I started hearing about the Stehekin Bakery 2574 miles ago. Ninja went a little crazy, coming out with a entire shopping bag full of goodies. The head sized cinnamon roll I ate left me once again in digestive distress. I spent the rest of the day lazing about Stehekin Landing relaxing and recovering.

We had a nice dinner at the restaurant and are camping in town. We’ll catch the first bus back to the trail in the morning and begin out final stretch!
