Day 142 – 9/16/11 – 24 miles (2476)
Thankfully the rain ended sometime overnight, but it was still cloudy and cold. Since it’s town day, I hiked in my long underwear and rain pants to avoid having to put on my wet hiking pants.
We got to the highway around 4:30 and quickly found a hitch into Baring. The moment we got out of the car, trail angel Andrea Dinsmore greeted us and loaded our packs in her car to take to the Dinsmore’s Hiker Haven just across the street. We had a delicious dinner, including huckleberry milkshakes all around, with several other hikers at the Baring Store. The word around the table was winter has started, and bad weather is coming, starting tomorrow. I’m hoping it’s just talk, like most of the rumors of doom and gloom we’ve heard throughout the hike.
After dinner we went to the Dinsmore’s and did all our town stuff. We mailed ourselves resupply packages here, but somehow there was a mix up with Ninja’s, and we’ll have to go to the Post Office in Skykomish tomorrow to fetch it.
