Timberline Lodge

Day 126 – 8/31/11 – 24 miles (2131)

The idea of pushing to Timberline Lodge yesterday was partly based on the promise of getting to sleep in a bit. But with a chilly wind whipping grit into my face all night, I ended up getting far less sleep than usual and got out of bed early just to go warm up in the lodge’s lobby. The breakfast buffet was indeed delicious, including Belgian waffles with huckleberries. It was very hard to find motivation to go back out into the cold drippy mess outside, so we sat in front of the fireplace in the lobby until after 10am.

I don’t know if it was our full bellies, or the weather, or just knowing we didn’t need to hike 30+ miles today, but our pace was considerably slower than usual. I got to camp just after sunset in a light rain.
