Day 61 – 6/22/13 – 21.8 mi (1048.6)
It was a good day of hiking. We had a good climb in the morning and nice views. We are approaching Stryder’s homeless town, Breckenridge. He knows the area really well and is clearly excited to be home.
But first was Copper Mountain Resort. I got in about 3:15, and it was another hour before everyone else trickled in. It was bizarre to walk into a carnival-like resort straight out of the woods. I would’ve liked to hike up and over the next mountain (2500′ up) before the end of the day, but it was clear not all were as motivated as I was. One beer later, I felt the way everyone else did. Wired was the only one who hiked very far, wanting to get into town earlier tomorrow morning.
The rest of us (Stryder, LoveNote, Rockin’ and Silly Chili) procrastinated a while and decided to just camp at the base of the mountain and save the climb for tomorrow. We stopped at a liquor store and picked up some beverages to pack out. We also got some lottery tickets and won $10 on $2 worth of scratch offs. Highlight of the day!
We had a great evening sitting around with our adult beverages in our stealth campsite between the highway and the river. Good times!
