Day 96 – 7/27/13 – 26.4 mi (1707.6)
As LoveNote, Stryder and I were about to leave camp this morning the others showed up! They were all camped not far behind us last night.
Everyone was feeling much more vigilant today, and it’s a good thing. The first few miles were easy trail, then it started to get tough to follow. Sometimes there were markers, and faint patches of tread appeared out of nowhere only to disappear 15′ later.
We followed the “official” route, which a mile or so into one section, we discovered isn’t even shown on our maps because the trail is so bad/nonexistent. We do have GPS waypoints for this route, so we tromped our way over the river and through the woods. It was a shit show.
It was also cool and damp all day, with a few rain showers, the worst one starting 5 minutes into our lunch break, of course. Despite the terrible state of the trail we made decent miles anyway. Tomorrow we will again mostly follow official trail, but have looked over the maps and planned a few cross country shortcuts of our own.
