Day 116 – 8/16/13 – 27.1 mi (2107.4)
Since leaving Leadore, the air has been thick with smoke from nearby fires. This morning was the worse yet, the sun didn’t even seem to rise until after 8am.
Burly Whites, LoveNote and I took a short alternate dropping down into a valley to get water at a lake. This turned out to be a nice route and we passed some old cabins with beautifully weathered planks as siding and a distinct lack of rat droppings inside.
The rest of the day was on great new trail, just built last year. We were really able to cruise. Then we met a southbounder and ended up talking for an hour. We decided to stop early to camp because it was a nice campsite, complete with stream for bathing. So we ended up with only average mileage for the day, but it was nice to have a more relaxed day than usual.
