The weekend brought unseasonably nice weather to Oregon – 70 and sunny on the coast! My hip was not yet fully recovered from my Wildwood hike last week, so a bike ride seemed like a better idea.

Goodness and I headed out to Tillamook, parked the car in town and road out along the west side of Tillamook Bay. Like the thru-hikers we are, we completely ignored the “road closed ahead” sign and decided to determine its pass-ability for ourselves. Only a 1 mile section of road was actually barricaded off, the road damaged from landslides.

The loose plan was to follow ODOT’s Three Capes Scenic Route (see page 9) – Starting with Cape Meares and continuing south if time and energy permitted. It turns out I am not in shape for cycling. Twice I had to get off and walk my bike up steep hills. Goodness fared much better, having good legs from bike commuting to work.

When we returned to the car, we discovered we were conveniently just steps away from Pelican Brewing. I enjoyed a stout float while sitting outside, getting sunburned in my tank top. Yay January!
I am so jealous! 70 degrees and sunny! But at least we missed the Blizzard of 2015 here in Berks County, PA. But I could really use a few sunny 70 degree days just now!
70* and sunny. Sounds like what SoCal experienced this past weekend. Nice report. Apparently thru-hiker super stud status does not transfer over to cycling as might be suspected!
