2/14/15 – 2/16/15
Camping at 4000′ in Oregon in February? Why yes, you can in 2015! With a holiday weekend for some, a bunch of the PCT 2011 gang got together for a weekend of camping at Wahtum Lake and day hikes nearby. We jokingly called it our “thru-hiker glamping” weekend. Glamping, or “glamorous camping” is a trendy thing where rich city people go sleep on beds in yurts or huts in places with beautiful scenery. For thru-hiker types, the simple luxuries of car camping – double wall tents, pit toilet, fire, french press coffee – qualify as glamping.
Being close to Portland, lots of folks were able to join in for hikes or camping as their schedules permitted. We had a total of 9 people, 8 of them 2011 PCT thru hikers, throughout the weekend!! It was great to get out and enjoy the local area.
Hikes from this weekend:
Eagle Creek Trail (from Wahtum Lake)
Chinidere Mountain
Bald Butte via the Oak Ridge Trail
Table Mountain via Aldrich Butte.
Looks like you all had a great time. Too bad Erin wasn’t there. That trail with all the small boulders looked like pain.
I know! Unfortunately, Wired was out of town for the weekend. It would’ve been so fun to have her there.
So great to see you keeping a blog of all your hikes! I have enjoyed reading about your adventures since 2011/12 and have really liked all the new trips you posts since updating to your new blog. Keep on dropping and rolling with Happy Trails!
