Day 24 – 4/6/16

Oh what a great zero day!
We moved from the Cowboy Country Inn over to the Escalante Outfitters, where we had made a cabin reservation weeks ago. Bunkbeds 2 nights in a row! Also a big shout out and thank you to Nate and everyone at the Outfitters. They were all super friendly and helpful to us, and their food and accommodations are all great!
We found Joey on the way to the Outfitter and caught up over breakfast and chores throughout the day. During laundry time, we looked over maps for the next section and sorted food we’d dropped off for ourselves on the way out. So leaving the laundromat, we were carrying boxes of food and a garbage bag of laundry (not wearing packs!) and were recognized as Hayduke hikers by 2 gentlemen, themselves dressed in hiking clothes. Glen and Mike are avid long distance hikers who met a few years ago while hiking the Arizona Trail, and were on short hiking and siteseeing vacation in the Escalante area. They are both interested in the Hayduke so were excited to talk to us. So excited they treated us to lunch! It was fun to talk about the trail and hiking and get to know them. Thanks Glen and Mike!
I got a whole bunch of other chores done, like soaking my phone in rice, fixing my tent zipper and eating too much (the hiker hunger really kicked in this last leg). I also picked up a package at the post office with new pants! Amazingly enough, the dental floss butt repair did make it a whole 2 weeks. The postman recognized us as Haydukers and was very friendly. He told us about a locals event in town that evening: all you can eat dinner and Bingo for $10. Sold.
I cannot describe how excited I was for Bingo, and the event exceeded expectations. The food was really good and the Bingo was so fun!! It was very fast paced, with each round being a different style (not just regular 5 in a row Bingo, but other shapes and rules). And would you believe, Bubs’ good luck from the Ruck continued! She won the second round and got this beautiful lawn ornament as a prize! (Hey Bubs’ mom – look what’s going in your yard!!).
In one of the late rounds I very enthusiastically yelled out Bingo myself, but was embarrassed to learn I had misunderstood the rules for that round, and did not, in fact, have Bingo.
We love Escalante!
“and the event exceeded expectations”, you sound like and HR lady! ha
Small towns are cool. Gonna move to one by the time I retire.
Thanks for the yard art!
Can we please go play bingo somewhere when you get back?!
Yes!!!
