Day 58 – 5/10/16
22.5 map / (didn’t even attempt) GPS miles
873.1 / 946 miles total
Finally, an easy day! The boulder obstacles disappeared, as did the flowing water, as expected, about a mile from camp. The canyon opened up a bit and we had a nice cobble-y wash to walk on most of the time. Somewhere in there we exited Grand Canyon National Park.
And then something like 10 miles into our anticipated 30 mile dry stretch, the water started flowing again. Really flowing, like, with actual fish swimming around, and it went on for a couple miles. I had to get my damn feet wet while hauling 7L of water.
Farther up canyon, as it opened up even more, we picked up game/use trails through the benches along the sides, which were great walking and cut off meanders. We exited to Hack Canyon, which continued with use trails.
And finally, we got to a cattle fence and I felt at once relieved to return to our beloved, cowpie littered homeland: Hayduke Country, USA.
I love that cow fence picture!
Horney Toads are bad*ss!
