Rome

Day 5 – 8/29/19

9.5 miles / 90.2 miles total

It never really cooled off overnight. I’m so glad I brought my lighter sleeping bag.

We thankfully had some cloud cover this morning, though Dan still had his umbrella up before 7am (pacific time, we aren’t doing the whole mountain time nonsense).

Umbrellas up before 7am

5 more miles of cross country, ending with crossing the Jordan Creek (thigh deep water, not sure how this is listed as a “questionable” source in the water data). The bushwhack through the riverbanks was thick, and we didn’t find the supposed game trails until nearly up the other side of canyon. Oh well…just a few road miles and tan town day!

We made it to Rome by 10am relieved they had a cabin available for the night. We were very ready for a break from the heat. It’s about what you’d expect for a private cabin for $52 a night. The towels were already stained (what previous ODT hiker is responsible for this?), the A/C can’t keep up, and the WiFi (password: “trumpwins”) doesn’t reach our room, and I don’t have cell service. It’s still pretty great.

I swear we are not responsible for this!
