Christmas Valley

Day 29 – 9/20/19

23.4 miles / 614.6 total

The early morning on the end of Diablo Rim was filled with lovely colors. I wanted to linger for photos, but I also wanted to get miles in while the weather was still nice. Rain was once again in the forecast for later today, and I had a dry motel room waiting for me in town.

Good morning!
Every direction looked like this

The walking was pretty straight forward back to primitive roads again, and I reached the split between the original ODT and the Christmas Valley alternate, which I am taking.

Once on the CV alternate, I climbed up and had great views back to the Summer Lake basin once again. I also chose to freestyle some of the cross country hiking and went up towards some power lines instead of down into a valley before meeting back up with the designated route, which again gave me some nice views.

Clouds and views down to Summer Lake

The weather held until my last hour of walking into town and I once again got rained on. At least it was fairly warm this time, maybe 60deg?

I got in about 3pm. Being a small town on Sunday, no restaurants were open for supper so I got gas station fried chicken that was actually pretty decent and laid around in motel the rest of the day.

Don’t judge.

I wasn’t really hungry but felt I should eat a 2nd supper and got some snacks at the store. I will sleep in tomorrow as I have to wait for Post Office to open in the morning to get my resupply box before I can leave.

So this must be where you bought your dad candy for his birthday. How thoughtful! It’s not just everyday that he gets a surprise package from Christmas Valley, Oregon.
